Context:

Big Red is a fictitious dine-in movie theater and the goal was to design a responsive website, including home page, product and check-out pages, trying to identify pain points users have and find solutions for them. This is a case study I created as a SVA (School of Visual Arts-NY) student.

Role:

We brainstormed as a group but I worked solo on my final solution.

Methods:

To achieve my solution, I used multiple methods including: competitive research, user interviews, personas, journey map, user flows, wireframes, usability tests and high fidelity prototypes.

🎯 Understanding the problem

We brainstormed as a group, empathizing with the experience of going to the movies, asking questions about buying tickets, choosing seats, getting food, what options movie theaters provide and more.

After that, I conducted secondary research, looking for information that already exists out there on the problem space. Below are my key findings.

Users

Men and women 25-39 year old are the biggest frequent movie going demographics. However, the age groups that most likely include parents and their children and teenagers, age 2-49, make up 68% of all moviegoers.

Goals

Primary reason to buy tickets online is for reserved seating.

Get discounted tickets.

Bond with friends and/or family by going to the movies together.

Environment

Streaming isn’t stopping people from going to the movies.

Moviegoers usually go to the movies with a spouse or partner.

Majority of moviegoers buy food at theater.

Pre-ordering food is still a newer concept but users are interested in it.
